Florida’s Attorney General Joins lawsuit
Pam Bondi, Florida's attorney general has announced that Florida will join 19 other state in a suit brought in Federal court seeking to end certain provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Specifically the plaintiffs argue that the prohibition against insurance companies insure those with preexisting conditions is unconstitutional. If they are successful, insurance companies would once again be able to deny people coverage based on there health conditions leaving around 8 million Floridians without health insurance. Trump’s Justice DOJ Will Not Defend Obamacare In Court
Several states including Texas have sued in federal court arguing that provisions of the affordable care act including the prohibition against applying pre-existing are unconstitutional. The Trump Department of Justice has declined to defend the provisions and has agreed with the plaintiffs that they are unconstitutional. If the suit is successful, insurance companies could once again deny people health coverage due to a medical condition costing millions of people their health insurance
Drug Manufacture Knew It’s Opioids Were Widely Abused
Purdue pharma the company that planted the seeds of the opioid epidemic through it's aggressive marketing of Oxycontin, has long claimed it was unaware of the powerful opioid painkiller's growing abuse until years after it went on the market. But, according to the New York Times a confidential Justice Department report shows that federal prosecutors investigating the company found that Purdue Pharma knew about "significant" abuse of Oxycontin in the first years of the drug being introduced. Trump Obamacare Changes To Push Up Premiums
2/27/18 – The Trump administration’s efforts to loosen health insurance rules will increase premiums for Obamacare plans by double digit premium percentages in most states next year according to a new study by the urban Institute. Monthly payments for a traditional health insurance plans sold through Obamacare will go up by 18% on average in 43 states. Expanding access to short-term health polices which can place limits on benefits and charge higher rates to sick people will draw healthy people out of the insurance pool and drive up costs for everyone else.
