Cigna Healthcare has announced that they are expanding their individual health insurance footprint in Florida. Right now their plans are only available in Palm Beach and Collier counties but for open enrollment this year they will also be available in Orange, Lake, Seminole, Osceola, Broward, Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River counties. Cigna offers affordable PPO plans with strong networks and outstanding benefits.

Health Insurance Rebates

In the next few weeks you may be receiving a rebate from your health insurance carrier as required by the Affordable Care Act. The A.C.A. requires insurers to spend at least 85% of their revenues on medical expenses, any amount under that must be returned to their inured customers. If you are an employer and do receive a rebate, you must either return it to your employees who are on your group health plan or use it to lower premium.

Florida Blue has announced that they are allowing their member groups to add a lower cost plan to their current group offering. Also, they are allowing employees who did not enroll when they were eligible to sign up now.

Molina Healthcare will now cover Corona virus antibody testing at no cost to the insured. The test must be FDA approved and administered by a medical professional. Molina offers individual health plans that are available on Healthcare.gov.

The Trump administration's Justice dept. has filed a brief in Federal Court asking that the whole of Obamacare be struck down as unconstitutional. Although they are unlikely to be successful, if they were, it would be a major upending of healthcare in America. Gone would be protections for those with pre-existing conditions, plans would no longer offer things like maternity coverage, mental health, and wellness benefits. Also, Medicaid expansion would be stricken  which now covers people in 33 states. And, without a plan to replace Obamacare, insurance coverage to over 200 million Americans would be disrupted.

SHORT TERM HEALTH INSURANCE

United healthcare has rolled out a new short term health insurance plan that can be issued up to three years. The plan will feature three one year period of coverage and pre-existing conditions would be covered after the first year. The plan will be available in Florida on April 26th and coverage can be issued after that.

Cigna To Offer Health Plans In Florida

Cigna has announced that they will be offering health insurance in all Florida counties starting Jan. 1st 2019 Although their plans will be offered off of the exchange, it is a new option for those who do not qualify for a subsidy to help cover their monthly premiums. This is further proof that despite efforts to destroy it, the individual health market is alive and well.
